I worship life through a labor of love. My language I’ve discovered, at the loom. I communicate with threads arranged through abstract algorithms assessed from the repetitive code that is weaving. My work is influenced by my background as a painter and I experiment with painted warps and sometimes wefts. I’ve been combining these dyeing strategies with intuitive double cloth pick up. I combine two cloths together as one piece by meticulously picking up threads. This process of combination helps me create my own code of interlacement, built upon by every pass of thread. The two-sidedness of the cloth mimics the experience of holding opposites. When I weave I experience being just as focused and intentional as I am disassociated and entranced. The tension between these simultaneous states of being creates a full experience where the repetitive nature of weaving gives way to personal prayer and reflection. Therefore these handwoven cloths uncover words and images hidden within my mind. Through incorporating these personal elements, I aim to create a vulnerable space for reflection. This is my act of love with all intent to worship life.
